US News Anchor Savannah Guthrie Issues Desperate Plea for Return of Abducted Mother
3 min read

TUCSON, Ariz. – In a heart-wrenching appeal that has gripped the nation, Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has broken her silence to plead directly with the captors of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who authorities believe was abducted from her Arizona home over the weekend.

The veteran journalist, flanked by her siblings in an emotional video released Wednesday, offered to negotiate for her mother’s safe return while demanding "proof of life" from those responsible.

"We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her," Guthrie said, her voice trembling but resolute. "We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us."

Abduction in the Night

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after she failed to attend church services. She was last seen the previous night at her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that investigators found signs of forced entry at the residence and are treating the disappearance as a criminal abduction. Officials noted that the 84-year-old suffers from limited mobility and requires daily medication for a heart condition, ruling out the possibility that she wandered off on her own.

"She didn't walk away from that house," Sheriff Nanos told reporters. "We believe she was taken against her will."

A Race Against Time

The search has intensified as days pass without access to Mrs. Guthrie’s vital heart medication. "If she is alive right now, her meds are vital," Sheriff Nanos stressed. "I can't stress that enough. It’s been days, and the family tells us if she doesn't have those meds, it can become fatal."

While unverified reports of a ransom note demanding cryptocurrency have circulated in the media, law enforcement has urged caution regarding "unverified accusations," though they are actively analyzing all leads. The FBI has joined the investigation, deploying specialized resources to assist local deputies.

"We Miss You, Momma"

For Savannah Guthrie, usually the one reporting the news, becoming the subject of it has been a nightmare. In her direct address to her mother during the video appeal, she offered a message of hope.

"Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman," Guthrie said, holding back tears. "We love you, we miss you, and we are doing everything to bring you home."

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department or the FBI immediately.
