Ayawaso East NDC Parliamentary Primary — Report by MyJoyOnline

Today, Saturday 7th February 2026, delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) went to the polls in the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary to elect a flagbearer ahead of the March 3 by-election, following the passing of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure.

According to a report by MyJoyOnline, voting was supervised by the Electoral Commission with security provided by the Ghana Police Service. Five candidates contested the primary: Mohammed Ramne, Hajia Amina Adam, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Dr. Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Mohammed Sani.

Pre‑election polling data as reported by MyJoyOnline showed Hajia Amina Adam leading delegate support ahead of the vote, positioning her as the favourite.

Meanwhile, MyJoyOnline reported that Baba Jamal’s campaign team distributed television sets and food items to some delegates, sparking concerns and reactions among party members.

Another MyJoyOnline report also cited projections suggesting Baba Jamal’s support could peak around 38%, while Hajia Amina maintained the lead.

Polling started early in the morning and was expected to continue until late afternoon, as delegates cast their ballots to determine who will represent the NDC in the upcoming Ayawaso East by‑election.
